The origin story of this secret message idea
One of my most memorable experiences teaching metalsmithing was a teen ring-making class on Cow Island with Ripple Effect over 15 years ago. I would catch an early morning fishing boat from Portland with my acetylene gas tank and a few hand tools. The class would gather in a decrepit, wet concrete bunker on the island. The students would hand stamp a meaningful word on the inside of the silver bands to remind them of their camp adventure, and together, we would solder them in the dim light of our shelter. It was raw, rough, and magical.

That lovely class memory popped into my mind when I started thinking about creating classes. I have made many talismans with secret messages, mantras, and wishes for clients. There is something so special about knowing you are the only one who holds the secret of your word stamped into the inside of your sacred ring.
